How to run two Synology Photos servers in sync?

I have about 120GB worth of JPG (and 10TB of RAW) in my photo library, and am running Synology Photos off a DS1621+ NAS. I have two DS1621+ and I plan to have one of them in Asia, and one of them in North America... I will use ShareSync to sync the photos after doing the initial sync locally.

My question is, I want the two Synoloy Photos to run exactly the same, meaning the albums I create and share, the faces that it recognizes etc, all to be in sync. Is that possible? If so, how?

I doubt it. First, you must determine if the photos synced between machines will be discovered by Photos. If DSM6 is indicative, photos can be added by SMB, etc., bypassing the indexing trigger.

Second, since the Photos' package settings are not synced between machines, you are relying on the individual AI instances to behave uniformly and precisely the same.

It should prove an interesting experiment, even using the initial local sync.

Is the purpose of running two devices with the exact same albums, etc for the purpose of backup, or some other reason?

While not exactly what you are seeking, an option would be to use Hyper Backup to backup the photographs, albums, etc as well as the application settings (including faces, etc) from the local device to the remote device.

That would provide you with an exact copy of the local device on the remote device, which can be retrieved if needed.

Thanks, one of the reasons to run two identical servers is for geographic latency. Accessing a NAS via a residential broadband (even with fiber gbps connections) is much slower then accessing a local server.
