1. How do you determine the version number of the existing container? Is there a command to enter in the Container's terminal window?

2. Does it make sense to delete the existing image prior to downloading the update (as the Docker interface gives no clue as to its activity when downloading to an existing image).

You could try Portainer.io for all your docker needs

I update my containers once a month maybe and I don't delete any image before updating. I just follow the procedure.

Yes, you can see versions, but like Rusty said, maybe Portainer.io can help.

Actually, I just tried that demo to pull the bitwardenrs/server image but does not show verisons.
