1. How do you determine the version number of the existing container? Is there a command to enter in the Container's terminal window?

2. Does it make sense to delete the existing image prior to downloading the update (as the Docker interface gives no clue as to its activity when downloading to an existing image).

You could try Portainer.io for all your docker needs

FYI, Docker changed the Action menu. Clear is now Reset (tested with jlesage/crashplan-pro).

Watchtower automatically updates containers.
DIUN may be a better option
Code:
https://hub.docker.com/r/crazymax/diun
That will let you know when a container has an update so you can update it when it's convenient for you.

Well, there is the --monitor-only option on Watchtower, then it will pull but not update your container.

Diun will not even pull, it will only notify that a new image is available

Let's start a new thread on this to discuss other methods for updating.

The original resource is focused solely on Synology's Docker package and the the new post by @kadiir is to highlight the change of name from 'Clear' to Reset' in the UI. Let's not lose that information.
