Greetings from Locked-down of Hampshire

New to the whole area but know the sort of things I want to achieve, far less sure about how to achieve them!

Wants:
  • Store copies [backups?] of images from Windows 10 - from
    • Direct import from mirrorless camera [sd card via Olympus desktop application]
      • Raw
      • Jpeg
    • Synched down from Google photos
      • Jpeg - or whatever Google uses
  • Backup Synology content to external machine [hyperbackup?]
  • Allow remote family/friends to store THEIR content on my NAS
  • Allow family to view photos
  • "Normal" [non-photo] machine backup
  • PC, mobile, tablet etc. sharing
Any help advice and guidance welcomed! There seems to be a plethora of options available, but not an obvious best way forward.

Hi,

Direct import from mirrorless camera [sd card via Olympus desktop application]
  • Raw
  • Jpeg
The 418play has a USB port at the front. You can use that with an SD card adapter to copy to the NAS directly if you wish. Read about it and see if that works for you. Make sure to use a USB 3 adapter for fast transfers.

Synched down from Google photos
  • Jpeg - or whatever Google uses
I’d leave this for someone else. I don’t do google. Let alone sync with them :)

Backup Synology content to external machine [hyperbackup?]
Yes, Hyper Backup to an external disk for example (connected to the DS USB port)

Allow remote family/friends to store THEIR content on my NAS
Possible, but this means opening up to the outside world. As @jeyare said, read about external access and security before attempting this.

Allow family to view photos
Possible. The latest is the Moments package. Check it out and see if that’s what you’re looking for. I don’t use it myself so I don’t know much about it.

"Normal" [non-photo] machine backup
Active Backup for Business is one way. But it’s not the only way.

PC, mobile, tablet etc. sharing
Check Synology’s Mobile Apps.
