initctl eating CPU

I noticed the NA was running slowly this morning and on logging into the console it looks like initctl is eating CPU like crazy. Any ideas what this process is, and how to get it back under control - preferably without rebooting the NAS.

In the end I rebooted the NAS which has sorted the issue.

I would've connected with SSH and initctl --help and go from there. Also, see what process is running using ps -ef | grep initctl and ps -ef --forest | more. Sending output, '|', to 'more' will display a page at a time: tap <space> for next page and 'q' to exit.
