Hi all, new here, I hope someone can help me!
I bought a Synology D218 NAS. I fired it up with one drive, then added another drive to it. I was able to initialize the second drive and connect it to the same volume as the first drive... but my free space in the volume is unchanged.

My two drives are:
DRIVE 1: Toshiba HDWT150, 4.5 TB HDD (Healthy)
DRIVE 2: WDC WDC WDS100T1R0A-68A4W0, 931.5 GB SSD (Healthy)

Drive 2 is actually the one I installed first.

When I go to the storage pool, it says that both drives are added, normal, and healthy, and lists the correct size of both... but the total capacity is 926.90 GB (the same as before adding the new drive).

Does anyone have any idea what I've done wrong here? Every button it seems like I could press to mitigate things is grayed out-- I cannot create a new volume, the only "actions" I have are defragmenting and configure, with configure offering nothing I can do but rename things or set details about access speed (I can provide screenshots if needed).

Share some screens of your Storage Manager just so we are sure what’s going on but my guess is you have had an SHR volume with that first drive and adding the new one it incorporated it in the same volume. Considering the size difference is great you can’t expect to see more space.

What you needed to do was to configure it as a separate volume in order to get more space.

You can add the new drive and change the RAID type to RAID1 (which is what SHR is in a 2 drive array).
