Hello,
i am still on DSM 6.2 and docker version 18.09.0-0519
i want to upgrade to the latest version 20.10.3-0554 but am not sure it is save to do so.

the reason for hesitating is i read in another thread that after upgrading there is an btrfs error
"failed to register layer: failed to create btrfs snapshot: inappropriate ioctl for device

since i am using btrfs on my synology this will be a problem.

i do not know if you upgrade by using the regular update package you will get this error also because i also read that people try to upgrade manually

so basically i am only using the original package center to do the upgrade

Synology's docker is heavily modified and the same applies for their btrfs implementation. They are far away from their vanila counterparts that also expect their dependencies in vanilla state. Of course this is the reason why people that try to monkeywrench a vanila docker to a Synology DS get that error. Lets put it that way: Synology has a habit to make things "their own"...

Though, you shouldn't experience any problems with the Docker spk package, as the sources of THEIR docker version are alligned to work with their modified dependencies. It is just a mess, if you try to bring in vanila components that expect vanila dependencies.

thanks. good to know that the synology upgrade will not break things but i hear you and understand the synology versions are far from standard.

upgraded and everything seems to work ok. all containers startup.
my homebridge container even has the correct name now (bug in passing DSM_HOSTNAME to container)
