Hi,
Hoping someone can advise on my issue.
I have a Synology DS212j, with a 2TB (Bay 1) and 4TB (Bay 2) HDD installed. I'm unsure of the exact RAID configuration but it was the one whereby it defaulted to the smaller HDD size so that my data was held on both HDDs in the event of failure. I'm not 100% sure of the version of my DSM but I remember clicking the auto update option so it should be completely up to date.
Recently the DS reported my 2TB drive as degraded. The DS continued to function fine however I noticed the Status LED was blinking amber. Just the other day when I was logged into the DS, an error displayed which left the web console unresponsive. I tried to restart the DS, however, following a short beep, the Status light is now just constantly flashing amber. I've removed both drives and still the same issue persists so it looks like a dead duck.
I placed a brand new HDD into bay 1 to see if the issue was related to the HDDs, however still the same outcome (Status flashing amber) so is this likely to be a hardware/mainboard issue with the DS? Is there anything else I can try to confirm this?
I have since ordered a new DS223j and want to confirm the best way to migrate. I was backing up the old HDDs using Hyper Backup on to an external HDD connected via USB. Would it be best to restore from this backup rather than place the two HDDSs directly into the new NAS and perform a HDD migration? I'm concerned as the 2TB HDD was reported as degraded so not sure how this would impact the HDD Migration option? I want to ideally go with the option to retain all my configuration and data.
Any thoughts and help would be appreciated as this has well and truly stressed me out!!
Many thanks in advance!
