I have a couple issues with repeating file syncs that don't complete and very slow sync overall.

I have been using cloudsync for a while on my DS918+ syncing to onedrive to good effect with no obvious issues. However lately I have had some issues where it appears to be syncing the same files over and over, if you hover over the 'recently modified files' you can see this, however these same files don't ever seem to complete. If I check the log, other files or folders have synced but very slowly iIt appears to be taking 5-10 mins to sync a single folder, with no contents) but not the repeating files, which then start again, in a loop. There is no obvious file type that repeat, they include *.cat, *.icm, *.exe for example (they are monitor driver etc files I think), and they are not in use on my windows 11 machine.

I was also finding the NAS was flooding my pihole with DNS requests, so I have turned that off for now to try and simplify the set-up to find out whats wrong. I have enabled DNS over https (cloudflared) for now, and this tests as working.

I have also tried pausing, unlinking, reauthorising and multiple restarts of the NAS and router. In the settings, polling period is still every 600 seconds, with no limit on traffic control. There is no encryption being used, the sync is bidrectional, and I have advanced consistency check enabled. I have changed the concurrent uploads/downloads to 15. I estimate the size overall is around 181gb and its a mixture of office and photos, but for home use. My home connection is 80meg down, and 20 meg up.

I have plenty of space on the NAS and onedrive. Any ideas on how to solve?

My first reaction is: stop (unscheduled) the cloud sync task, create a new one from scratch with the same settings, and retry. If it works delete the old one, if not let us see what we can do more.

Thanks for the reply, I will try and report back.

Update - I uninstalled cloud sync completely after removing all the task, I then also removed the database, then rebooted the NAS. I then re-installed and added the task back in under a different name - a sync between one drive and the NAS.

The files on the NAS and the files on onedrive were broadly the same, there were a few photos on onedrive since the issues. The task seemed to find these photoes and upload to the NAS however I think I am see the same issues again now.

I am seeing a 'Connecting icon' relatively often as the task runs, however the rest of the network seems fine. The task also seems to be 'stuck' on 10007 files now, with nothing obviously happening. If I hover over ' Recently modified files' it shows a succession of files seeminly either being scanned or downloaded, some repeating, however if I check the log none of them are actually completing.

Looks like you did all you could to get it fixed. I am out of ideas and still do not recognize the issue.
I can only think of the following:
  • the number of files is almost too close to 10000 to be a coincidence.
  • I presume you checked the specs and limitations in Cloud Sync - Synology Knowledge Center (I could not find any based on your input.)
  • maybe log a ticket at Synology to see if they can help.

succes!

Thanks @EAZ1964.

I didnt actually check the spec, or not recently (I will read now), as this has worked for multiple years so I had not thought about it. I also concluded I should raise a ticket so I did that a few hours ago.

Just updating this thread.

I raised a request with Synology who confirmed that "the issue was caused by a problem with the database under Cloud Sync". As part of trying to fix prior to referring to Synology directly, I deleted the Cloud Sync database so they "were currently unable to identify the exact cause of the database issue". So the "Cloud Sync database has been repaired and the package is now syncing successfully".

Thanks for this info. I've had exactly the same issues and also raised a ticket with support. They remoted in to the NAS, fixed the issue with the Cloud Sync database and "applied a patch" after which I was able to recreate my Cloud Sync tasks. Everything now looks good again.
