LetsEncrypt will no longer be alerting people when their certificate is going to expire. You'll have had an email if you use LE.

Do I care? I have LE certificates on my Synology. Will they automagically renew - I think they do any way - or am I going to have to fiddle about when I fail to renew them in good time...

Ending Support for Expiration Notification Emails

Thanks

I am not sure if DSM auto renews the certificates. I use NPM and for sure it renews them without any interaction from me

Note 5 at How do I obtain a certificate from Let's Encrypt on my Synology NAS? - Synology Knowledge Center

  1. Let's Encrypt certificates are valid for 90 days. If the domain authenticates successfully, DSM automatically renews the certificate before the expiration.
So I shouldn't have to do anything. Having said that I had to mess about to get a certificate working / renewing correctly a couple or three months ago. So we shall see.

I guess there's no harm in signing up for an alert from Red Sift. Never miss an expiring certificate with Red Sift Certificates Lite Is there?

Note 6 from that page is important.

6. To obtain or renew the certificate of your customized domain, make sure port 80 has been forwarded to your NAS. This limitation does not apply to Synology DDNS.

My buddy uses Synology DDNS and neither of us have any open ports exposed to the internet. His certificate (hisname.myds.me) auto-renewed. My DDNS isn't synology and I had to open a port briefly every few months to allow certificate renewal to succeed. I setup DNS challenge now so renewal can happen without any open ports.

I have a small scheduled task that notifies me of a nearing certificate expiry. Could share if anyone is interested.
