I've managed to install a couple of containers on Docker - but only because those containers came with fairly complete installation instructions.
Yes, I've signed up for an account at docker.com. And I'm not a Linux noob (started out on a version of Unix in the mid 80s, been a software dev since the 90s).
BTW/FWIW for anyone else trying to figure Docker out, there's a free level account you can sign up for - and there's a "play with Docker" link - but I haven't found a how-to, never mind a how-to for the version on our Synology boxes. Anybody got something they can point me at?
Thanks!

You might want to check this excellent free self-paced Docker training: Introduction to Containers.
Don't be intimidated from the number of slides: most slides are processed within seconds - except the slides with the hand-on exercises.

I found the training to be much better then two paid three day classroom trainings I had.

The style of documentation depends on how you want to manage Docker. You can either manage it with the Syno-UI accept that it only implements a subset of what Docker providers, or you can get full control using the cli or Portainer.

The official docker forums is a waste of time - it is completly unmodarated and is molested by spam bots that either post ads or answer posts in a "let me google this for you" style.

Looks pretty good.
I wonder if this belongs in the how-to section... (?)
Thanks!
