Maintaining folder structure when uploading photos

I have a large selection of older photos that I've already arranged in folders according to subject. It's something like:
2003
  • Birthday
  • Christmas
  • County Fair
2004
  • Birthday
  • Piano recital
etc.

When I try to upload these to Synology photos, it ignores the folder names, and groups all of the photos by date. Is there a way to maintain the folder structure?

Yes, only in shared space, folder view.
The old fashioned way: create a shared folder “photos” and create the shared space there.
