Hi, I have a DS918+.
I initially had 4 drives in it : 2 drives of 8TB each and 2 drives of 4TB each.
I swapped out the 4TB drives one by one and let it rebuild.
SHR is my choice.
I have 21.8 TB of total capacity but only 15.74 showing. See these screenshots:

Hi Rusty, yes they are 4x8TB. I would think I would have 24TB (from the synology storage calculator), not the 15.7TB that I seem to have

Also, I thought that a DS918+ can get up to 108 TB for a max storage pool?

One thought: did you create the Storage Pool and Volume using the DS918+ or did you used to have an earlier DSM NAS where they were created?

Hi Fredbert - the old 4TB drives MIGHT have been from another NAS, I don't remember now.....

First,
In the first screenshot - Overview - you can find that you don't have Total capacity: 24TB, but 21.8TB only

Second:
I would like to see output from these commands (SSH):

then

then
silly question - is that from SSH on the NAS?

Hi Jeyare, I've enabled SSH but don't know how to get to the terminal. Sorry, this is way beyond what I normally do. I'm technical, but usually don't play at the root level or command prompts.....

Try and remember. If it is true then you might be looking at a 16TB limitation here. The pool is sized as it should be but usable volume might be due to its legacy, limited to 16TB.

Does this help with creating a second volume...

Convert from a single-volume to a multiple-volume storage pool

Hi Telos,

It doesn't actually. The option to convert is greyed out.
Kind of frustrating that I have 21.92TB of capacity as you can see but only xx.xx TB in a volume. First pic is from Storage Pool and the second is from Volume.
Is there no way to get the extra back without somehow moving to ANOTHER NAS that I don't have?
Cheers, Michael

Launch Mac's Terminal application (in /Applications/Utilities). Then run command:

ssh nas_admin_name@nas_ip_address -p nas_ssh_port_number

e.g if your admin is 'nasadmin', the NAS at 192.168.1.100, and the SSH port is 1234

ssh [email protected] -p 1234
Hi, I just got back home where my NAS is. I tried this and this is what I got back:
ssh_dispatch_run_fatal: Connection to 192.168.68.1 port 22: Invalid key length

Hi Jeyare, sorry about the delay but I was away from the NAS for quite a while. I managed to get in, and this is what I got to see from the commands you wanted:

/dev/md0 ext4 156k 42k 115k 27% 2.5G 1.1G 1.3G 48% - /

Michael@PeckDS918:~$ fdisk -l /dev/sda

fdisk: cannot open /dev/sda: Permission denied

Michael@PeckDS918:~$ vgadisplay

-sh: vgadisplay: command not found

Michael@PeckDS918:~$

I hope this means something to you: :)
