Moments - Am I missing something?

Hey guys.
I've been trying to work moments out, Been using photo station for years and currently have photos organised by years in folders. I have a folder that we upload pics straight into and then i go and move them to years and events.
With Moments, I have set to shared library and create albums from folder view. When i upload a photo it just goes straight into pool. How can i organise these to go straight into an album that i can later move the photos from. Even if I put pics into a folder it doesn't automatically update the created folder.
Seems overly complicated and unfinished.

Any help would be appreciated

Moments just takes any photos it finds in /home/Drive/Moments and below, regardless of folder structure, and applies its own tagging to create an overlay structure of various kinds.

It sounds like you are trying to use Moments as you do with PhotoStation. But you’ve already got PhotoStation so use that! Moments is doing the organising instead of you.

Try to think of Moments as analogous to Apple’s iOS and Mac Photos apps and iCloud photo stream: you don’t get to decide the underlying folder structure of how the photo files are stored, instead you use the apps to create albums and shares from the timeline.

Thanks for your reply, Hopefully in future updates more functionality will be available.

I think you are fighting Moments to do what you're doing with Photo Station, but it's not the same. As a lazy taker of 'snaps' then Moments does more organising than I would do. I never found Photo Station to be useful due to the need to proactively do all the organising and ensure the access privileges were correctly set. Though DS photo's iOS camera backup was good.

What you term the 'pool' is, I think, the timeline view that shows everything in your Moments folder (and below) in time order. You select the photos in this view and can add to or create new albums. Or you go to the albums view and find newly added items in the recently added album.

If you want to upload photos to the NAS and wait before having Moments process them then you just need to save them to a folder outside Moments personal or shared folders.

What is missing in Moments is smart albums that update with new photos as they are uploaded. e.g. smart folder for date range 01/01/2019 - 31/12/2019. Let's face it, Moments does quite a lot of processing already so smart albums wouldn't add much more effort.

I figured it out, additional step is required when using moments so that I can save pics as normal to year and event folder like photo station.
When pics are uploaded to moments, Copy to shared folder and in the PHOTOS shared folder they get put into a moments folder. I can then put into relevant folder as needed.
Happy days!
