Well that's a whole lot of space!I've also purchased 4 Seagate Exos 14TB, setting them as SHR2. In the future I will add 4 extra disks. I know that I've lost half of the disks capacity but I need the extra redundancy (saftety) over the storage space.
I have what some might consider an odd suggestion born of personal experience: Since you have the space in this rig, add a drive. Here's why:
- with 4-drives and SHR-2, you can lose 2-drives and still run, but you have no protection in case another drive goes out before a new set shows up;
- with 5-drives and SHR-2, you can lose 2-drives and still have SHR-1; and
- you spread out the wear a bit.
Yeah, that seems to happen a lot.Oh I almost forgot, the budget allocated in the end was 2100 euros for the NAS+the disks. I've exceed the initial predictions.
Not really, no. The 3TB disks generally, from all makers, had issues and you've got a ton of storage already. Also those old 3TB disks are probably not on the "compatibility" list.I still have 4x3tb disks. Do you think is worth putting them inside the new nas or it makes no sense in terms of performance/space?
