Hello, I was about to purchase a NAS and hard drives but figured I should get the opinion of others with more experience before pulling the trigger.

I currently have about 4 TB worth of pictures and videos I would like to have backed up.
I am also planning on adding a media and videos of kids sporting events etc...

My plan was to purchase the Ds920+. and 2 10 TB ironwolf hard drives, with SHR setup.

I will eventually add 1 or 2 more hard drives later but want to keep cost down for now.

I may add another synology device at my small business, which I would like to back up to home device and vice versa.

Also, Does this set up sound reasonable?

Would future expansion be as simple as popping in another hard drive?

Thank you

correction.... and 2, 10 TB hard drives

Thanks, So another NAS at my office could serve as a back up for the Home NAS, correct?
If I had a DS920+ at home, would any offsite Synology NAS be compatible? What would be a good option for a small office? I currently have about a half a TB of data and would probably add about 100 gig per year.

Yes

Depends on the needs apart from the simple backup. Apps, services etc that you have in mind for this "office" nas.

Yes. With SHR that will be simple but be mindful of limitations.

Adding to Rusty's comments... your office NAS could be dirt simple, or a bit more expensive as you desire. For example, my dirt simple approach is a 2-disk j-series NAS on RAID/JBOD running only Hyper Backup Vault. It gets fed from Hyper Backup (naturally) and Shared Folder Sync, depending on whether I want versioning, or just a copy I can easily access in its native state.

From there you could add disk capacity for redundancy (RAID1 for 2-Disk). Beyond that, you can move to a btrfs capable NAS to provide bitrot protection of your backups.
