My 213j transfer rates are horrid. When I check the network interface dropdown I see this:

The first thing I did was swap Ethernet cables with my primary NAS. But no success (and the primary NAS still reports 1Gbps, full duplex).

Is there a CLI command to reset this?

The 213j only has one Ethernet port, FWIW. Thanks for any support!

Additional info:

sudo ethtool eth0

Code:
Settings for eth0:
Supported ports: [ TP MII ]
        Supported link modes: 10baseT/Half 10baseT/Full
                                100baseT/Half 100baseT/Full
                                1000baseT/Full

Stuff I've tried...
  • NAS restart
  • Four other Ethernet cables
  • Switch LAN router ports
  • Connected NAS to laptop (no Ethernet connection reported by PC)
  • sudo ethtool -s eth0 speed 1000 duplex full autoneg off ... this one killed the Ethernet connection, requiring NAS restart.
  • Router reboot ...
Maybe chip is faulty?

I guess there is still reset 1 & 2... but would this really matter?

Looks like you need to look at the partner's config.
Good observation. Both NAS are directly connected to a router LAN port.

When I run sudo ethtool eth0 from the other NAS, I get...
Code:
 Advertised link modes: 10baseT/Half 10baseT/Full
                         100baseT/Half 100baseT/Full
                         1000baseT/Full
So I switched the cables between the NAS, so that the problem NAS gets the cable and the LAN jack from the working NAS, and the results are the same for each NAS.

I'm far from an expert here, but that suggests to me that my DS213j's Ethernet "handshake" isn't happening, and things default to the base level.

Would you agree?

Strange, I've seen that happen with rpi3b+ as it uses 1G over usb2 which can only move at 300Mbps. No idea what's causing it at the router.

It may be time to retire the 213j. Since it's used as backup, I substituted a 14 TB Easystore in its place. Now backups are running at 210 MB/s (instead of 8 MB/s).

Someone suggested it may be a connector problem. I'll look at that, but replacement is likely beyond my skill level.

But don't you know that it hurts me so, to say goodbye to you
Wish you didn't have to go... No, no, no, no.
