Hi, I have had this DS920+ for a few years and it has worked great. I have a few videos on there and the rest are files but I am not near capacity. The NAS has worked well at this address (this TV, this ISP, this NAS, this router, this hardware, etc) but for the last few weeks I have been unable to watch video from a particular show that I uploaded a long time ago because the video pauses and loads every few seconds. I have been able to watch this show before but not anymore. A few weeks ago, I uploaded another show and I can watch that one without the buffering issue, this problem is only with the original show. I have noticed that while watching this video the upload speed is under 800 KB/s. Anyone have anything I should investigate to fix this issue?

Possibly a codec/transcoding issue, or possibly subtitle related (if you are using that feature). Compare the codecs with a working episode.

Is this DS Video, or other?

Depending upon the video program you are using it may have a built-in feature under file "properties". Plex has that.
unfortunately the both the video that works AND the video that does not work are both mkv with H.264 codec

On the plex server, there was an option to convert the show to optimized quality for TV so I am doing that. It is taking a few minutes but I'll post here when it finishes. If you have any other ideas for in case this does nothing then please let me know.

No, the conversion did not help. I'm not sure what to do next.

Do you have PlexPass (required for hardware-based trancoding?

Be sure you are viewing the transcoded "optimized " file.

What about the audio codecs, are they the same?
I don't know how to check any of those three, although I did pay the $5 on the plex app for the upgrade if that is what you are asking with the first one. I turned the video quality down and that seems to have "fixed" the skipping, but now the videos obviously look bad.

That says you do not have hardware encoding active (no Plex Pass). So no on-the-fly transcoding. This could explain buffering. You should test playback using a package which supports hardware transcoding (Jellyfin, Video Station, etc).

Buffering can occur if your network is limited as well. Wi-Fi is a common culprit, as is QuickConnect.

Plex optimized files are stored separately from the originals (originals are not overwritten). You must selected the specific version to be played. Your episode interface should indicate that multiple versions are available.

great thanks, are the hardware transcoders that you mentioned free? and if so, is there anything to do to configure them besides install them on the NAS? ie does it work automatically?

It looks like no.. Synology | Jellyfin

Not knowing your setup...from my experience I have been able to get away with minimal/no buffering with uncompressed DVD and blu ray playback running wirelessly with a newer quality router and an AMZ firestick. Anything uncompressed of higher quality requires a cabled 1GBE connection (and for me, an Nvidia Shield Pro) to avoid it.
