I hope I have this in the right forum... It's my first post on SynoForum.
BACKGROUND:
I have a Synology DS220j with two drives. Both drives that I installed, HGST 8TB Enterprise ones, were instantly recognized, formatted, and worked fine. But the network connection and proprietary formatting on the Synology was causing me problems (actually, it might have been my ignorance that was the problem), so I decided to remove the drives from the Synology and reformat them (on my Mac) to ExFAT. I planned to use them as USB drives in SATA enclosures. One of the two drives formatted fine, but the other (that was working properly in the Synology) refused to format at all.
Giving up on those drives, I purchased new ones for USB service. I returned the two original drives to the Synology, but now, when I start the Synology, I get a message that one of the drives is "degraded," and that I need to repair it. Then the Synology begins beeping about once per second.
REPAIR ATTEMPT:
Looking at Synology documents, it says I should use "Storage Manager" to repair degraded storage. But I've searched extensively and have yet to find a "Storage Manager for Mac" download. The only software I find on my Mac's HDD is something called "Synology Surveillence Manager Client" that has no option that I can see for any "Storage Manager."
I've tried pushing the reset button on the Synology box in hopes that it would reset and reformat the drives, but it doesn't.
QUESTIONS:
1. How do I find and download "Synology Storage Manager" for Mac?
2. If Storage Manager is not available, how do I repair degraded storage on my DS220j?
3. Why does Synology make it so hard to find the software that their own Customer Service documents recommend?
Thanks for your input. I've spent HOURS so far trying to reformat these drives in my DS220j and restore them to service, but so far, without success. Any help is greatly appreciated.
