Everything on my DS218 is going well, backups to my external hard drive are going well but I have been getting this message "The external device USB Disk 1 on ***NAS was not ejected safely" but I haven't touched the external drive for a while as I mentioned, everything is humming along fine...
Is there a problem somewhere that I am not aware of?? I have searched the Internet for any repetition of this error but didn't locate anything...

Just to clarify, NAS and the USB have each their own power source?

Guessing no UPS before the wall socket? It could be if the USB has its own power source and it is not on the UPS, that is has short reconnects due to power fluctuations.

No UPS (still saving up for that :-p )...The computer is connected to the same power source and hasn't done anything weird...

Still, I think that might be it. I didn't mean that your devices need to turn off completely, but depending on the amount of power they use, some devices will detect that fluctuations more then others. Imho that is the issue here, and UPS should be installed asap if for nothing else then to protect your NAS and the drives inside it, from same potential situations that the USB caddy is having.

Cool...thanks for the explanation...as I mentioned before, I am still saving up for a UPS...shoulda had one a long time ago but other things got in the way...
