Photo Backup Not Automatic With VPN Active Outside of Home Network

Hi - I don't recall how long it has been, but when I am away from my home network - which has a Synology RT2600ac router - Photo Backup in the DS Photo app is not automatic, and even when I try to manually run it, photos simply don't upload. I am running NordVPN on my iPhone. However this is not an issue with at home, as the uploads are automatic.

Any thoughts on how to troubleshoot this or settings to adjust?

1. Do you use a geofence to initiate the backup by DS photo?
2. In Photo Backup settings, have you enabled "Upload on Wi-Fi only"?

Hi @fredbert - thanks for your reply! In response:

1. Geofence - I was unaware of this setting, and there is one set for where my house is, which may explain why it uploads at home. Should I delete this, or add more? Ideally I would like it uploading all the time.

2. Upload on Wi-Fi only is not enabled.

The geofence is what is kicking off the auto upload. I guess it’s set for your home.

I’m not sure why it doesn’t upload when initiated manually.

Thanks @fredbert - so I should setup geofences at locations I frequent, such as friends/family houses, work, etc.?
