Photos does not recognize image files that start with an underscore.

I "manually" moved thousands of photos into the shared PhotoLibrary folder. Most of the image files are recognized by Synology Photos, but those files that start with an underscore (e.g., _DCM0008.jpg) are not recognized by Synology Photos. I remove the leading underscore from the file and voila, the file is recognized by Photos and the picture now appears. Do I need to rename all the files that start with the underscore...or is there a better way?

If it solves your problem and the files appear to be recognized and work properly, I would indeed rename them all. You can do this with a batch script via Terminal. Look up batch rename files and test the commands on a copy of some files first. If everything works fine, you‘ll be done in seconds.
