Good Morning & Merry Christmas!,
I backed up my PLEX SERVER APP DATA and I need to know the correct steps to re-install the Backup to plex. My Plex server is located on my Synology 1019+ NAS running DSM7. I searched all over Youtube to no avail. I really hope you can help me out, I have over 865 Movies and other video files & folders and I really don't want to fix all my metadata again, it takes forever to replace. I actually had backed up the Plex Media Server files before, but....updated to DSM7since then. Two weeks later suffered an electrical (Brown Out) that was so fast my battery backs didn't kick in. Really screwed up my 1019+ and tried to reinstall the APP data but I don't know if I'm doing it correctly.

Sincerely, hcmiller51

Hello and welcome!

Can you share how exactly have you backed up your Plex server elements? What method?

Hi Rusty,
I just Shut down PLEX, then went to the File station folder "PlexMediaServer" double-clicked it, then right-clicked the AppData folder, and selected download. It compressed the AppData folder and sent it to my "Download" folder on my C-Drive. hcmiller51

In that case, you can follow the regular Plex KB on migration.

Regardless it is the same NAS, once you install a fresh instance and have a backup of a previous one, you can treat it as a migration. Follow the article to the letter.

Rusty,
First of all, I'd like to apologize for not getting back to you sooner. Christmas Holidays and all, still not an excuse.
Thanks so much for your response and all the help. Using your suggestion I was able to try out and test the
"backup/recovery " a couple of times and it works beautifully. Still fixing the metadata, I'm just starting the 'G's" now. ;o(
Thanks again, hcmiller
