I have a DDNS domain name through No-IP that's working with DSM, and I can use https with LE certificates no problem. I want to use reverse proxy to stop so many ports being forwarded on my Netgear Orbi router. I'd be happy to just forward 443 to the nas and have everything coming through there. The problem is, I can't stop "5001" appearing at the end of the urls. If I enter "myurl.com" into Firefox it immediately becomes "myurl.com:5001". If port 5001 is forwarded I get to the DSM login. If I close 5001 I can't connect. I've set up "dsm.myurl.com" to specifically get to DSM, because I want "myurl.com" to be for my website. If I enter "dsm.myurl.com" as soon as I press return it instantly becomes "myurl.com:5001". I just can't stop the "5001" appearing automatically. It's not Firefox - it happens in DuckDuckGo on my Android phone as well, and also happens in Edge and on different computers. I've tried setting up a reverse proxy for dsm.myurl.com to go from 443 to 5001 but if 5001 is closed on the router I can't connect at all as the "5001" keeps appearing no matter what I do. If I type "myurl.com:443" the moment I press return "443" changes to "5001". Any thoughts greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Try are redirect your reverse to http port, 5000 or whatever you have configured and turn off in dsm settings http to https redirect.
Genius! That worked. Thank you for your advice. I'm a little puzzled as to why it worked though...?

Well with reverse proxy you really do not need to push for internal https protocol, but what solved it here, imho would be that you turned off http to https redirect in dsm settings. If you try now to use https in your reverse host and the correct port, I'm sure it would work as well.

Still, for complexity sake, using http internally will be just fine as long as you have configured reverse host as it should be, as well as protected with a valid ssl

That makes sense. I was wondering if internal HTTPS mattered as long as I'm connecting in with the LE certificates, which I appear to be.

Thanks again!

Its always good to troubleshoot this sort of behavior with curl -ivL ${your_url} (afaik: requires linux, dsm via ssh is fine) as you will see any redirects immediatly and see the trail of redirects if they use the status code 301 for permanent redirects (browsers tend to persist them) or 302 for temprorary redirects (evaluated every time a request to that url is made) or even something else.

Thanks. I gave it a go with PuTTY and found the output rather difficult to understand. If I bump into the same problem again in the future I'll certainly revisit this post, but I may need help interpreting the result! Fortunately my urls are now working as expected - I'm very grateful for the help and advice.
