Having recently acquired a new DS920+ I decided to upgrade the ram. Because I could. No other reason, OK? Given the frankly shocking price of ram from Synology I opted for a 4 GB chip from Crucial at a fifth of the price! Very easy to fit considering my knackered hands. Fired it up as soon as I got all the hard drives back in and the info page showed 8GB as anticipated. Then I decided to do a memory check using Synology Assistant. Started it going and went and made a cup of tea. On returning the NAS was switched off, and would not switch on again. :eek:. Five minutes of DIY CPR then I unplugged it, removed the memory stick, and fired it all up. It works. Just putting this out to share in the hope of adding to this vast information pool. I was going to return the chip to Crucial but reading around on the internet I think I'll hang on to it in case a future DSM upgrade fixes the problem.

I would test it otherwise if possible. I'm guessing Synology "locked" it somehow.

Of course, I presume you are using "in spec" memory... for example... Crucial CT16G4SFD8266 16 GB (DDR4, 2666 MT/s, PC4-21300, Dual Rank x8, SODIMM, 260-Pin.

Also... Synology has hard-coded memory values, so you may wish to review/update
/etc/synoinfo.conf
/etc.defaults/synoinfo.conf

default:
Code:
mem_default_mb="4096"
mem_max_mb="8192"
edited:
Code:
mem_default_mb="4096"
mem_max_mb="16384"

These values may be overwritten by major DSM updates.

The ram I tried was only 4GB. DDR4-2666 SODIMM, C19 1.2v
CT4G4SFS8266. Thanks for the input.
