I have a Synology DS1821 with 7 4TB drives running SHR2 (and the latest DSM7.1).
I want to have a satellite diskstation at a remote location replicating the files on the 1821. The two would be connected together using a VPN on Draytak routers. I would use Cloudstation server on the 1821, and Cloudstation client on the remote diskstation. The 1821 is backed up every night using 2 8TB USB drives. Hyperback is used for backup. Ther is a USB UPS connected to the 1821.
This arrangement works very well and is what I used my the DS1521 went south.
My question is on the remote diskstation is as follows:
I am considering using a DS423+ with 3-12TB drives running SHR, and 1 16TB drive for backup (the 16TB drive would be a JBOD and be backed up using hyperbackup).
The alternative is to use 3-12TB drives and an external 16TB USB drive as a backup.
Which would be the better configuration?
I would be using a USB UPS with the 423. SInce the 423 has only 2 USB ports, I can only use 2 usb devices on it.
