Reverse proxy works but not for deeper subdomains (plex.example.com vs plex.home.example.com)

Reverse proxy works but not for deeper subdomains (plex.example.com vs plex.home.example.com)

The setup is:
  • DS918+ running the latest version of DSM 7
  • LetsEncrypt certificate are working at all levels and is good for example.com, *.example.com, *.home.example.com
  • DNS for resources resolves correctly at all levels
The issue:
  • Reverse proxies for any resources on *.example.com correctly route to the intended resource
  • Reverse proxies for any resources on *.home.example.com incorrectly route to the DSM login page
For example:

Reverse Proxy Nameplexplex-v2
Source ProtocolHTTPSHTTPS
Source Hostnameplex.example.complex.home.example.com
Source Port443443
Destination ProtocolHTTPHTTP
Destination Hostname192.168.1.3192.168.1.3
Destination Port3240032400
Result when visitedCorrectly taken to PlexUnexpectedly taken to the DSM login page at https://plex.home.example.com:5100/#/signin

DNS entries:

Nameplex.example.com plex.home.example.com
TypeAA
TTL300300
IP Address192.168.1.3192.168.1.3
Result when resolvedCorrectly resolvedCorrectly resolved

DSM login portal settings
  • Port (http): 5000
  • Port (https): 5100
  • Whether HTTP to HTTPS redirection is on does not change the result of the reverse proxies (I didn't expect it to, but I tested it)

What am I missing here? Is it not possible to reverse proxy for deeper levels of a subdomain on DSM 7?
