Reverse Proxy

I am running two different websites in docker containers and using Control Panel > Application Portal > Reverse Proxy to redirect http to https for both of them. It works fine for one but the second one doesn't redirect. This is the config. There are no custom headers set and the advanced settings haven't been changed from the defaults. Can anyone see what is wrong with the calibre re-direct?

I see what you are trying to do here but I have found that this method works for me.

Hope it helps

Thanks Rusty, I was hoping to do it without installing web station and it works for Panel but not Calibre. If no one comes up with any better solutions I will give your suggestion a go.

I hear you. You could move this solution to a docker nginx instance as well and just use it on an http port of your choice without the need to install web station to host that htaccess file.

Make an RP entry to it for port 80 and another for 443 to your port 80 URL for each app.

You will get the same result

Is that Calibre running on Docker? If so, is that local port hard-assigned to container port 8080?
It's calibre-web running on docker, the local port is 28083. The problem is redirecting port 80 to 443 for the calibre sub-domain, it is working fine for the panel sub-domain.

Dumb question here... but why use a redirect? Just allow HTTPS only (443). Maybe I don't understand the need for redirect, as I have never bothered to implement.

because when users enter either http or https://calibre.richardfmartin.co.uk in their browser I want them to end up at my calibre-web installation on https using the lets encrypt certificate on the synology box

Thanks for your help Rusty, it's all working now as per your first suggestion, with Web Station, except I didn't need to install apache as nginx was already installed.

Though, you know how a redirect works, aren't you?

A redirect bounces the unsecure http connection to the https endpint - external access uses https.

What you configures serves the content of the https endpoint - after terminating the security context - and serving it as plain text http content. That's a big no-no. Laziness of users should not compromize your security, don't you agree?
