Just wondering if anybody has a perspective on the value of the RT6600ax over the RT2600ac
I currently have an RT2600ac, and it looks like its ethernet ports are going bad. I can't get a reliable Ethernet connection DHCP allocation on any ports ~ I can do it on WiFi - a bit weird.
I have had RT2600ac since Dec 2019, SRM 1.2.5-8227 Update 5
I'm particularly also looking for segmenting off the IoT devices -
Network Security │ Synology Router Manager | Synology Inc.
but not clear what devices this is implemented on
I think that is an IoT VLAN, but not sure if VLAN is required (RT6600 supports VLAN)
So do want Dual WAN, but only need Gbit LAN,

SRM 1.3.1 (upcoming non release candidate version) will bring all the same features to all the current models.

The only reason for 6600 over 2600 is horsepower, wifi6, and 2,5G that can’t be used but in specific cases.

There is an upcoming rt3000ax model (a successor for the 2600) but it is still unknown what it will bring to the table (or when).

So if you want vlan, and all the srm features but don’t need anything more then 1G, there is no real reason to push for 6600.

Subjectively, it appears the RT6600 provides a stronger wi-fi signal and broader coverage vs. the RT2600. We have about 45 IoT devices - now on a separate VLAN - scattered around a 2400sqft single level residence. With the RT2600, a few of the IoT devices located farthest from the router were unreliable. Now, with the RT6600, they're responding consistently. Unfortunately, I don't have objective measurements for comparison. Has anyone else observed improved wi-fi coverage? Ron

@Rusty thanks for the insight. That was starting to be my reading, but was wondering if I was missing something. I will stick with RT2600 which implements the critical Layer 4 Hardware monitoring.
An update, I maybe maligning the reliability of the RT2600. Seems basic ethernet is working.
There are so many entries coming up under windows 11 "Ipconfig" of ethernet and vEthernet that it takes some careful reading. I may have shot myself in the foot with trying to implement a local Domain for more security since I've upgrade to Windows 11. which also required to do a local DNS,- and now it seems that the real issue is can't do DNS.

Just wondering if anybody has been through this - is it better to set up a local internal DNS and then do a Synology Directory Server
There is this discussion, but no pointers, and some discussion of this in SRM1.3 DNS over HTTPS: things to consider when you go “private”

I've tried to setup Synology Directory Server with this tutorial, which I think is too simplistic First-Time Setup Wizard | Synology Directory Server - Synology Knowledge Center
and the install required DNS, so then backed off the Synology Directory Server.
The DNS is on an DS218+ with fixed IP.

Oh interesting. It has 6 antennas, so technically if I understand beam forming, it could project the signal further. I guess that doesn't work when receiving. I wonder the IoT devices antenna are, they would seem to be the limiting factor.

I’m happy with 1GB & 2600. Looking forward to 1.3.x simply for security (I’m assuming the 60 some security issues DSM 7.1.1RC just provided will trickle down to 2600), and VLAN, assuming I ever learn how to use it properly.

As, if, and when Fibre ever comes the 4+ mile trip up the mountain from the valley, I might revisit the router situation. But if it does start this way, I’ll have months to re-think it!
