I wasn't really planning on this upgrade but stumbled on a new 'Synology' branded ECC SODIMM for regular DDR4 money. I need more RAM than this but for now it does, at least, double my RAM and brings me into dual-channel mode. My search for a bigger and better memory configuration that escapes the new vendor waring in DSM will continue.

Usual dull and unremarkable Synology box:

Identical to the SODIMM that came with the RS1221+ but with an extra 'Warranty' sticker... serious stuff:

Not much to say about fitting a stick of RAM in acres of space, apart from Synology leaving microns between the RAM and the heatsink (why do I think @Rusty is laughing at the size of the CPU cooling):

"Call that a heatsink?"

Anyway, system booted-up and RAM checked:

Interesting that the max RAM is stated as 64GB.

Back to the GUI and everything looking ok and now rocking 8GB of RAM like it is 1999, again.

:coffee:

The memory speed will be limited by the AMD CPU @ 2400MT/s, so the 2666MT/s on the Synology RAM sticks above does not add performance.

As to the RAM sticks you propose, I have no idea. What spec are they and are they ECC SODIMMs?

In my DS1819+ I have two Kingston KSM24SED8/16ME modules... now replaced by KSM26SED8/16HD as stated on Kingston website... So if the KSM26SED8/16HD modules are compatible with RS1221+, this applies to my KSM24SED8/16ME modules... is it right?

I have installed two Kingston KSM24SED8/16ME modules.
It's ok.

Viewing the system events, the system notifies me that the modules are not Synology genuine.

I guess the "Kingston" manufacturer code was noted during a successful syno_mem_check.

At least the manufacturer code used by Synology RAM has a hint of humour. No ASCII text in the parameter, just 08F7.

08F7 is hex or geek-speak for 'divided' ÷.

Divided they fall.

How do you get that list display? Looks like a dos command (ssh command)

Any instructions on how to perform that test and get those values?

The first line provides the command, and it's via a SSH session...

sudo dmidecode -t memory

You will be asked for your password to run the command with elevated privileges.

Thank you so much. I am new to this whole NAS scene, and still learning the very basic stuff.

See? I nailed it. I was the first one to tell you it's not "streamlined". Glad that you "streamlined" it 😁...

The processor in that model is an AMD Ryzen V1780B, it supports 32 GB maximum, as listed on Synology's site.
