Hi,

I have Network printer/scanner Canon MAXIFY GX6040 and Synology RS 1221+ (DSM 7.2.1-69057 Update 5).
All is connected up through switch and Scanner sees folder son NAS just fine, and I had it setup that when I hit scan preset on my Canon scanner LCD i get PDF created directly on my NAS/Scan_Folder.
That worked like a charm for like 15 months but as of recently (I think as of latest Synology update month ago or so, can't' tell for sure since I've not scanned anything like for 2 months and then i needed it 2 days ago) it's not working any more.

Canon has its windows utility from which one you set scan folder and login credentials, and I've not changed anything there, but it just won't connect any more, says pass or login are wrong.

I thought it might be some Canon printer/scanner issue, so I've updated firmware on it, but it didn't help.
Then I changed the scan folder to my Workstation/Windows PC and that worked just fine. But changing it back to NAS then it can't go pass login stage :(.
I tried to give Admin credentials and even created new user (scan) in Synology permissions, but neither worked.

I'm sure it uses SMB for this process and my Synology SMB min was SMB2 and max SMB3 but i've even tried to set minimum to SMB1 and nope, still no go..

Any Idea what Synology might be changed in their latest DSM update(s) to make it this problematic for Canon Printer/Scanner to scan to NAS?

Thanks

The specific user you are using for this, does it have permission for SMB under applications?

What does your network look like, is it flat (just one lan and everything on that) or do you have vlans?

Do you have synology nas firewall on? Try disabling that if so and test.

When was last time you rebooted everything? Try a reboot on everything and check again.

Hi,

thanks for input, Gerard.

  • Snyology is restarted few times in this process - didn't help :(.
  • My network is unchanged from last 2 years, no VLANs (UniFi Dream Machine SE + few switches adn APs, all working fine with multiple machines in network and 2 synology NAS-es)
  • I'll check Synology firewall thanks for idea.
EDIT:

Nope, no change with Synology firewall of/on, it just says it can't connect (although when i go browse it normally sees all the NAS folders - that's how i picked destination folder anyway)
P.S. Pin code is just default canons 0000 but i tried with on/off and no difference (saving to my workstation PC works both ways with or without that pin so i don't think that's issue).

I just get this error:

What about smb permission access under the user profile?

I'm trying to log with Admin user which has all the premissions. But i dodn't see any SMB specific rules under permissions? Is that in some other settings that i maybe don't know about?

I was just checking under users/permissions. nothing SMB specific there that i can see.

Or go to the user profile, and click applications tab

I had similar issues in the past and could not get it resolved via SMB.
For some reason it worked on FTP So it is now: printing via SMB, scanning over FTP specific user, specific permissions.
As it works,I never took the time to understand why.

Hey Guys, Just checked to what you pointed and my both SMB checkmarks are/were on.

@EAZ1964 - what bugs me the most is that it did worked few months ago and now it doesn't and i can't solve it :(.

Can you elaborate a more about NFS you got to work. I don't care what protocol as long as i can make it the damn thing SCAN on NAS so all machines can access/use that scan documents. Right now i scan to my workstation and then manually copy to NAS. So frustrating :).

thanks guys

Sorry I checked the printer and nas, but my memory failed on me: It is setup as scan to FTP.

Enable the SFTP, create a separate user with permission to the folder where uploads are done, and allow this user FTP in the applications tab.
Then setup scan to FTP on the printer with this user.

Here is an update:

I just tuned on by backup NAS (DSM 1817+) and scanning to my old DSM1817+ works/scans fine.
Both NAS devices are on same DSM version so i guess there is some checkmark/function now set different on my RS1221+ which i can't find (for last 20 minutes i'm going through tabs and comparing settings on two monitors and i can't find the issue/difference that prevents scan to RS1221+ other than RS has quick connect service enable but shouldn't be the issue/relevant (i hope)....

Well i guess good thing is that it's not because DSM update so now i need to find culprit in the settings :)
