Hello everyone,

I have a Synology DS420J (4Bay) and used a Seagate Exos 8TB (ST8000NM001A) and Seagate Skyhawk (ST8000VX004). ALL BRAND NEW.

Seagate EXOS 8TB (ST8000NM001A) - Bay 1
Seagate Skyhawk 8TB (ST8000VX004) - Bay 2

The Seagate Skyhawk was detected by my NAS, while the Seagate EXOS, was not. I've swapped the bay between EXOS to the bay of Skyhawk, but the same, the EXOS was not detected. while Skyhawk was detected. Used different bays, it was not detected as well.

Seagate EXOS was tested also in an external drive (through USB), it's working.

What to check or what is the issue?

Any advice?

Good question - the Exos is not on either the compatibility or incompatibility matrixes for that model. was it connected via USB on the DS420J ?

NO, not in DS420J USB, it was tested on my laptop using an external drive adapter.

I'm surprised that wasn't picked up from your first post. Glad you sorted it out.
I didn't know at first, I've checked with ChatGPT the type, and it was confirmed it's SATA and Not SAS.

Only someone from FB group mentioned that it is a SAS, sharing the tech specs.

Googling the drive model number (ST8000NM001A) shows clearly SAS. Another reason to be cautious with ChaptGPT.
