So when you go and make a new storage pool, do you get the option to use this 16TB drive?

seems to be you don’t have:
- an external SATA/USB adapter to check the disk out of the NAS (PC)
- experience how to check the disk health (however I have seen “health” status in one of your screenshots = what doesn’t mean it’s ok at all), Try to check SMART extended test in the Storage manager (it’s pretty simple, than CLI, but you can get some new info for a sharing here)
Try to search in this forum keyword “smartctl”, then you will find some hints, how to check the disk by CLI. Also you will find some answers in proposed logs.

just to be sure, when the disk isn’t initialized, you doesn’t have written a partition there. Some reasons:
- damaged sector, then you can’t write there = SMART check
- damaged disk controller (means PCB in the disk) = dtto SMART check
- an unexpected system error during write of the partition to the disk drive = NAS logs
- a hardware error between mainboard and disk bus (check the bay with another disk)
... or just bad day for you
As many times recommended here, it’s really mandatory to invest few coins into the SATA/USB3 external adapter for every NAS users. It can help you to find lot if issue reasons out of your NAS, save data, ...

The other obvious point here is that the disk did not fit in the backplane...physically different connectors.
