I'm trying to do what I thought would be a simple task. I have successfully created a Shared Space in Synology Photos, and given full access to my spouse and I. I would like my children to also have access to the photos in the Shared Space, but only read access to prevent deletions. I created a new Group for them in DSM Control Panel, User & Groups. In the same group I gave them access to the Synology Photos application.

Inside Synology Photos there is no read only setting under Settings>Shared Space>Permissions>Set Access Permissions. Only Full Access or Custom. If I set the children's group to Full Access they can delete files. If I set it to Custom, then I have to select "Downloader" for all the folder (which is fine and seems to work). But what happens when I add new folders to the Shared Photos? Do the permissions automatically carry over to the new folder, or will I have to go in and add them after the fact?

I'm looking for a way to set read only permissions for the children's group that apply to all folders in the Shared Space. I thought that by setting the permissions at the group level in User & Groups I would be set, but it doesn't seem to work that way.

I have read serval articles on the Synology Knowledge Base on Shared Photo permissions but they all seem to focus on "Full Access" or folder specific Custom Access.

New to the forum, thanks in advance for any ideas or help.

Thanks everyone!

As far as I know, on custom, you have to manually add permissions to new folders, as new ones are not accessible.

Next to the permissions of synology photo, there is also the regular shared folder permission system, that will allow you to give your children read only on the share. If you give them full access in photo, I guess ( not sure, please check) that the linux file permission will go above the photo permissions, and custom setting can be avoided.

I thought this would be the case too, but I have definitely got the shared space photos folder permissions set to Read Only in User & Groups, and if I set the permissions to "Full Access" in Synology Photos, they get full access with the ability to delete photos.

I can use the "Custom" permission settings in Synology Photos to restrict access to "Downloader" level, but then the children lose the timeline view (apparently this is a "feature") AND I will have to go into Synology Photos and apply the Custom>Downloader settings to each and every new folder I create over time. This is very odd indeed.
