SRM1.2.5 has been working fine, and I'm afraid to update to SRM 1.3.1 Update 1 since I understand you can't go back.
I have a simple home network that I've spent weeks learning and refining the Firewall and Threat Prevention.
Are there any compelling new features or speed improvements in SRM 1.3.1 Update 1?
Will the Firewall and TP configuration and settings be maintained with the update to SRM 1.3.1 Update 1?

Best to read up the release notes for that. Its a bit faster, offers vlan configuration and has some security issues fixed.

Yes it will

Was concerned as well. I upgraded 3 weeks ago (2600), and do not use VLAN.
NO PROBLEMS!!
Also took this time to update M2 in USBV3 enclosure to ext4 format for TP & Logs. No problems there, either, and May be a touch faster.

thanks. I did the update. It updated fine and recovered the firewall and threat prevention configurations which was great as the old 1.2.5 config backup files are not compatible with 1.3.1.
Threat Prevention required an update to run with SRM 1.3.1
There some anxious 1-2 hours that Threat Protection took to configure itself, but it eventually completed and runs and has all my configs. All my NASs are there, IP cameras so its all good.
I see the more sophisticated networking features which I will never use such as separate nets and such.
The biggest functional addition in SRM 1.3.1 that jumped out at me was a button to prioritize network performance over Threat Protection should packet inspection bog the processor down.
One feature I am surprised that is not there is a manual Reboot button.

Was concerned as well. I upgraded 2600 manually a couple of weeks ago, and let it run, no modifications - no problems
There is an upgrade to TP and I'm getting more suspicious events that I haven't tracked down.

Still no issues with V1.3.1-1 here.

A small concern, however:

Though the benefits of a SSD over SD Card storage for TP & Logs is quite obvious, Synology Support says Trim on external SSD on 2600 is not supported. Tests indicate that SSD speeds suffer with time without Trim, even with EXT4 format. I posted simple command line speed test, and trim commands for external SSD on 2600 and gave it to Support.
When I asked Support if the new 6600 also has the same issue, he stopped responding to the ticket yesterday.

My hope is, that 6600 acts same as 2600!
Seeing that 6600 is a new product, therefore this might be fixed, and ‘the fix’ trickle down to 2600 in SRM.

In the meantime, I can SSH into 2600 router, do speed test, and Trim on external SSD, then second speed test to confirm Trim was beneficial every couple months to keep SSD Speeds high! Info available on request.

FYI
