So this morning a NAS prompts me….

Thanks. Same price I see for Ironwolf’s. Gotta few months.

Really where? I checked as soon as I saw Telos’ post on WD. I feel that I lean more toward seagate ironwolfs. I’ve had two WD reds from around the 2018 era and I only got about a year and half out of both of them; they both ended up failing. My ironwolfs are going on 4 years strong.

I had less than stellar results with 2TB REDS. 2 plus one warranty drive died. I bought some 6TB 7200 Ironwolf’s (during the short time they made 7200 version) and they’ve been bullet proof since.
$159 is what B&H and Amazon is doing now. I’m trying to time my jump to running out of space. NAS Basic needs is for DVD/BR ISO, my data, video gear technical data, and security camera redundant storage. My timed script files keep camera data automatically in line, it’s primarily the ISO’s that grow as they are made.
(On Edit System: Once edit/DVD/BR OK’d all video & edit & authoring files are deleted, only ISO files remain, and get archived in redundant NAS’s. Edit system went from spinning Drive Raid 0 for Viideo/edit/authoring temporary fast storage to Raid0 SSD Storage ~ 6 years ago, freeing up 4x 1TB Barracuda’s, 2x now residing in experimental NAS 720-2).
Occasionally, as recently happened, I get to free up ISO space, which gives me more time to look for sales.
As long as I keep ahead of the two NAS’s remaining storage, I can keep kicking the replacement drive “can” down the road.
If a drive fails, with SHR, I order immediately, Update limping NAS one at a time, and gain a spare drive for other system - as both are 6TB Ironwolf’s.
At least—that’s the plan….

Yes.. 199 for 10 159 for 8.. 6 is installed on both now.
With luck, drives will hang in there... $ will fall to point where I can consider 4 drives, not 2, update both my main units with SHR, have 2 spares, and populate the experimental 720+ with 6's as SHR... and retire the 1Tb Barracuda's one more (Last) time!

Of Course, a drive failure throws a wrench in this plan, but, redundant data storage and SHR minimizes data loss...
