Have a somewhat unusual problem.... I assisted my neighbor (Personal Family Friends) installing a 2600 Router Years ago... Presently at 1.2.5.x... Everything is working fine, including the external USB SSD for TP.... Per his request at that time of install no QC, auto update, or registering was done... He entered ALL PASSWORDS, Nothing Documented. As time went on, I pre-tested SRM updates on my systems here.... and walked him through the updates...... But eventually I upgraded to 1.3.x,
He did not want to upgrade... "Leave it alone"...

He passed last year, and took all his passwords with him....

I have done one SRM update, since then, (and did turn on auto updates...) but only got in at all because Synology Assistant on his wife's laptop... had saved the login.... !!! WIFI and System Passwords are not known... by anyone.

Their system is simple: with exception of 1 ethernet connection to Cable system, Printer and all others are WIFI.... (I know, I set it up) he added one WIFI battery operated security camera, but battery has long since failed).. They have no need for VLAN, but could use 1.3.1's security update(s).... Or, maybe not! ??

I'm vacillating between letting it be.... because they have such a simple system, nothing is on 24/7, But the passwords issue, and registration issue.. (out of warranty so not a registration issue).. and on the other side, there is the 1.3.x security benefits...

Has anyone encountered anything like this? How did you proceed, or did you?

?????

1. You should be able to use the Browser's password manager to view the saved password. This will give you access and Password.

2. Always best to have the updates ran, especially in light if vulnerabilities and potential attacks ( especially if not monitored at all ) Also I typically restart my router 1x a week to ensure it's fresh and ready to go. I cannot image having it not restarted for a year.

3. Worst case scenario, factory reset set same SSID and wifi password and make it manageable once again to help out a window ( with her consent of course )

Update on this....
All access to passwords has been deleted -- removed on all devices there... no documentation of WIFI and Admin login exists. (The access I had to SRM via SA program, is all there is, on Wife's W10 Laptop... That would be the access I could use if the decision changes.)..

Due to access by children not in this state, who have WIFI Access when there... decision has been made to leave this router as it is....

As, If, and When the router locks up.... Then the router can be reset and started over..... Decision made...

end
