Ssd caching installation

Hi,

I just bought 2 ssds that I want to use for caching.
How do I install them on an Nas that is already up and running. If I shut down the nas and pull out 2-3 drives to access the ssd slots wont I ruin the storage pool created already?

DS1621+ has 2 dedicated NVMe slots for cache. Installing them will not affect the current drives that make up your RAID array.

But is it safe to remove 3 drives from the array while installing the NVMe drives?

Yes ofc. Considering you have to shutdown the nas in order to remove the drives, once back up, the NAS will not tell the difference regarding the main array.
