I've always used Allway Sync to provide real time Back Up of my devices Files to my NAS....... Though I also do a separate Daily Image on all our devices, I like the ability that every file is immediately viewable on the NAS when needed... i.e. not compressed so they can be readily viewed. Unfortunately Allway Sync is not cooperating lately and I'm looking for an alternative. Are any of Synology's APPS a drop in replacement that provides File Sync I can utilize?

Tried it? Had not encountered it before you suggested it.... I was initially wary as it's banner proclaimed "Enterprise" and thought it might be above my needs. I'll look closely though. Is it possible Synology does not have a 1 to 1 copy feature similar to Allway Sync??

Many tools are there, but as per your request about alternatives that provide real-time backup to NAS, maybe you would check out Resilio, GoodSync, GsRichcopy360, and Carbonite

On all my PC's I run both Disk Image and Real Time File Backups.... I think that is what you are suggesting that "Sync" is not a backup.

What I mean is that you should not use the word backup if you mean sync, or even worse, think that a sync gives you the guarantee of a backup.
it is simply different, and has a different purpose.

lots of info on the topic e.g. :

a real time backup in a sync, will trash your “backup” the moment you mess up the original. A backup would not.
at least synology drive adds versioning, that is a hybrid between sync and backup.

Thank you for your explanation. Yes... of course your right regarding a Sync original vs. the copy. Not using "Propagate Modifications & Deletion" Options in the Sync preserves the original is how I utilize it.

Incomplete explanation? While that may preserve the original, how are changes to the original captured?

Your correct... In order for any changes to be Synched, Modifications must be propagated. And yes.. the original is then altered to reflect that.
