So, not really a big deal, isn't it?

I've attached an USB drive to all of my PCs and using Macrium Reflect to fully (incremental, differential) backup all of the local volumes. Additional, Macrium is using one of my NAS as a secondary backup storage. Macrium does not support smartphone, though.

I bet, Synology will take a lot of money for its new backup solution

Good to see them expanding, I can see a bunch of use cases where this would be useful for those that need backups for critical pc's and mac's that aren't connected to a network or field work where you have very very slow or no internet.

I'm sure it will come in handy for some, but lack of encryption on this type of device...

Oh I missed that I would have assumed that a key/password like used in HyperBackup would be part of the setup. Without encryption this would be a no-go.

Without encryption this would be a no-go.

Surely you can use HB client-side encryption just as with any USB drive. Yet, I see no advantage to this when the market is saturated with USB drives.

Anyone who updated a laptop to SSD has a spare drive lying around that with a $8-$12 Ebay purchase, Should accomplish the same thing for far less out of pocket $$.
Heck, I’ve been giving away backup drives for/to relatives for years!
