Hi I currently have a DS412+ and a DS918+. I got the DS412+ first of course and then a few years later the DS918+.

The DS918+ is currently my main system and is working fine and the DS412+ since getting the additional unit has been used as a back up device.

In the last few days the DS412+ seems to have gone wrong (the blue power light is flashing). The power adapter is fine, i think there is an iussue with the board. I think all the drives are ok as the problem is still there even if no drives are connected. The unit is around 12 years old, so has given good service.

Its not a major issue at the main DS918+ system is still working. However, this has made me think that i should maybe get a further NAS and I have been looking at the DS923+ or the DS1522+.

I am wondering what unit would be the best (I use it for Drive, Cameras and streaming music and films etc). I am wondering if i can simply swap the four drives i currently use and the system will almost be back up and running or am i best starting again with new drives?

Also, is it easy to move the camera licence to the new unit or will this not be needed if i reuse the drives?

Many thanks for any points or tips.

Yes, you can do that with no issues. As to whether should you get new drives, it depends. How old are the drives, and are they large enough to be futureproof?

You can migrate the lic, but if the system migrates with no issues it won't be needed. Still, you will be able to migrate in any event.

Note: You can only migrate purchased licenses.
