Hi folks!
When setting up Synology DS923+ the first time, what should be done and in what order to get the revad scripts (for enabling unofficially supported 3rd Party h/w like M.2 SSD, HDD, & RAM) applied:
For example:
Should you plug the 923 into the power and network, with no HDD or SSD and just as an empty stock 923+ w/stock 4GB module? Can it even be setup without a drive to install the OS? (I'm guessing no.)
If one was trying to have the script in place before plugging any non-Synology RAM, HDD, & SSD's in, but what happens if all you had is the RAM it came with .... the goal might be to get things setup so no annoying warnings and errors about unsupported hardware pop up or get logged. The HDD, SSD, & RAM would need to be tested to be fully functional and not damaged as well.
If you went with:
Would this sequence work and be best?...or does anyone recommend something else??????
Also, on related first time setup question topics:
I appreciate any insights and thoughts anyone has on this!
Thanks in advance for your support!

For example:
- Should you skip updating DSM to the latest version and disable auto updates and enable that later?
- Should you NOT check "enable Web Assistant" and go back to enable that later?
- Should you create your Syno Account after?
- Should you enable Quick Connect ID for Internet access, Active Insight for monitoring, DSM config. backup, Email Notifications for issues after Revad is applied?
- Should you skip adding the drives to a pool and eventually doing a Drive Check/Initialization/Scrubbing... and just come back and do all that later after setup of a large volume 3rd Party HDD using the Revad script?

If you went with:
- DS923+ (x1) stock w/4GB ECC Syno RAM (x1)
- Kingston 16GB ECC SODIMM RAM (x2) to upgrade
- WD Red Pro >18TB HDD (x6) for use and have handy for failures
- Crucial M.2 NVMe >800GB SSD (x2) to upgrade
Would this sequence work and be best?...or does anyone recommend something else??????
- I thought plug it in (to power and network). (don't put a HDD in yet?...not even sure if this would work...)
- Power it up and setup and skip anything possible if it will let me.
- Get to the point where I can SSH in and do my revad scripts thing.
- Power it down.
- Put in the RAM.
- Power it up and see if revad scripts worked for the RAM.
- Power it down if it did.
- Put in the M.2 NVMe SSDs.
- Power it up and see if the revad scripts worked for the SSDs.
- Power it down if it did.
- Put in 3 of the 6 HDDs.
- Power it up and see if the revad scripts worked for the first set of 3 HDDs.
- Do some SMART tests and drive checks if the script worked on the 3 drives and power it down if everything was good.
- Swap those 3 with the remaining 3 HDDs out of the 6 and repeat steps 12 & 13 again.
- Once it's powered down, pull the HDDs out and put in 4 and save the 2 as backup.
Also, on related first time setup question topics:
- SHR vs. RAID5 - I want a RAID5 setup with 1 drive failure protection, but want to fill all bays with the same drive on day 1; is RAID5 achievable w/SHR as well? If there is no difference in reliability or recoverability between explicitly picking RAID5 or the SHR options, is one better than the other?
- What's the difference between Quick Connect and Web Assistant?
- Do most people use 2FA if they enable Quick Connect access?
I appreciate any insights and thoughts anyone has on this!
