Oh no! What Synology has do to discourage use of 3rd-party NAS drives, it appears that Surveillance Station users may someday find that their 3rd-party cameras may be rendered useless, or have diminished performance with Synology hardware.

To add to this insanity, it's likely the Synology cameras may only work with Synology software, locking users into a bizarre form of Hotel California.

Apparently since 🍎 gets away with such nonsense, Synology has chosen to follow suit.
 
Yes. I wish they didn’t go into the camera business. Most likely they’ll start restricting some features to be only available on their cameras 🙁

I read somewhere that buying a Synology camera does not consume (or need) a camera license. Did not research it any further, so I’m not sure. Smart move if that’s true but kind of an unfair advantage when comparing what’s out there.
