I would strongly suggest that those of you with security cameras using Surveillance Station on NAS's that are NOT DVA models, do the following: NOW: BEFORE Contemplating the 7.2.2 upgrade... so that you know in advance what's about to "Go Away"!

1. Go into your SS, and call up each of the cameras set up within SS. Check EACH of your Cameras..
2. Examine the Event Detection area...
3. In Event Detection, check to see if you have the option of selecting "BY CAMERA" On the 7.2.1-5 or whatever version you are using....

IF YOU CANNOT SEE "BY CAMERA" AS A SELECTION IN EVENT DETECTION..... DO NOT UPGRADE TO 7.2.2, AS THAT CAMERA WILL CEASE TO BE ABLE TO RECORD MOTION... IN 7.2.2..

Doesn't matter if the camera is set as H264 -- this still applies.

Again.... I'm just the postman

I'm locked out at Synology forum.... If the above gets posted at Synology Forum, as warning to others, I'm ok with it...

That camera is good! But you tested it AFTER the upgrade.... My post is how to determine BEFORE the upgrade, if the camera would become a 'Potted Plant' IF 7.2.2 upgrade is done...

Advanced Knowledge is a GOOD Thing!!

here is example of camera that works fine in 7.2.1-5, but will become a potted plant in 7.2.2

Well, there is no point in saying that the camera will not work after the update if before the update it had no "by camera" setting is there?

The point is that on the 264 setting nothing will change upon update as confirmed and written in the notes. If the camera had limitations it will continue to have the same limitations on 264. With 265 settings those are still working but completely depend on the client's a) camera and b) device that you are running the stream off (as in phone, computer etc) apart from the DVA setup.

I think this was written now multiple times on multiple topics, so I am closing this one. If there are any more questions on this front, members have recommended a way to test it (using VDSM that will have zero negative effect on the host system) so I suggest giving that a go and lifting the burden off yourself with these questions.

The point is, some cameras will fall off the spectrum for sure (buying a 5$ one for example), while for the most part, buying and having a 50$+ model you can be 100% certain those will work with no issue. Worse case they will not have 265 support, but hey, a bit more storage will be used to save the footage in 264 then.

Topic closed.
