Hello! I had previous success setting up the built in 2x1GBit LAN ports with Multichannel 3 on my 920+

Then moved to a single 2.5GBit usb adapter via a powered USB hub (which also connects to my UPS and another Synology). No issues there as well.

In hopes of improving transfer speed and to try Multichannel 3 with 2.5GBit adapters, I purchased the same 2.5GBit adapter today Plugged the adapter into that powered usb data hub and the 920+ does not recognize it. The "old" one still appears, still is working. No issues there. My onboard LAN adapters are also there, working fine but no recognition of the new 2.5 adapter.

Curious if there could/would be issues of having two of the same exact adapters, plugged into the same (powered) usb hub?

The adapter in question is the Asus usb-c2500.

I attempted to clean install the same drivers again via the r1852 github page, but not sure if that would work given it's already a sort of work around (and they were already installed on the machine).

Update : That didn't really seem to do anything. I uninstalled the driver, and tried a fresh install, of hopes the Synology would then see BOTH adapters. Sadly not, still just one.

Fwiw, the newly purchased dongle works / is recognized in a windows 11 machine. So it's not the adapter. Could be an issue with the hub? I plugged in a bunch of other devices and they all seem to be working fine. I do see green connection lights on the hidden USB adapter in question, so it is working(ish).

Is it better or potentially necessary to have use a different 2.5GBit adapter than the one previously installed?

Good sleuthing. Have you got SMB MC working, and if so how’s it performing?

Oh, and which 2.5 GbE USB devices did you get?

I am using an Asus USBC2500. Both installed fine and seem to be working!

But for the bad news : it does not seem that Multichannel is fully working or doing much vs just a single 2.5Gbe connection. I just realized this may due to the speed limitations of the DS920's USB 3.0 ports (ie, not 3.1 or 3.2).

I get the nearly the same transfer read/write speed with a single 2.5 adapter as i do with the 2 x 2.5 adapters running as multichannel

What HD's are you running? After replacing my DS1813+ with an RS2423rp+ that has 10 gig networking, I upgraded my networking to my desktop to 10 gig thinking it would significantly improve transfer times for files to my NAS. I saw moderate gains, from about 90 MB/sec to 130-150 MB/sec with the new networking configuration. On further investigation, it appears I am just hitting the limitations of the local hard drives (WD wd4002fyyz-01b7cb0 spinning disks). I also have an NVMe installed on this desktop as the boot device and when I do tests from that I see 500 MB/sec+ speeds so I know my networking isn't the bottleneck.

There are moving parts here - of most impact are drive RPM's and RAID/SHR configuration. I typically see 2x - 3x faster transfer speeds running 10 GBE, I'm on WD Ultrastars/Deskstars.

I have same problem with DS1815+ and I can't seem to find the "Hot Plug" feature on the DSM 7.1 version. Would you post an image as well ?

Could always use a dual drive USB enclosure. That way you get two drives, but only use one usb port.
