Two storage pools into one

DS923+
Hello, I had a WD NAS fail on me so I purchased a Synology DS923+ and one HD that was big enough to hold all of the data from the failed NAS. I setup the DS923+ and got all of the files on it, but when I went to add 3 of the drives from the old NAS I couldn't add them to the same volume (or I didn't know how to) due to them being smaller capacity. So, I created a new Storage pool and then a new Volume with the 3 drives from the old NAS. I duplicated the data onto the new volume thinking that I can delete the single drive volume and add it to the volume with 3 drives, but when I went to do it I got worried I would delete the DSM when I deleted the original volume and be out of luck. So, what is the proper way to make this setup a single volume, if it is possible?

You did everything correctly considering the size of the drives. As you said you had no option to add smaller drives into an SHR pool that already has a 10TB disk.

What’s left now is to migrate anything else off volume 1, and then destroy it. Don’t worry, once you configured the second storage pool with 3 drives, DSM has installed there as well.

So you can go ahead and destroy the initial volume and then add that single 10TB disk into storage pool 2.

Do keep in mind several things:
1) you can’t make volume 2 become volume 1 once you delete the initial pool. It can be done via ssh but not via storage manager

2) apps installed on that volume will be gone and will need to be reinstalled on volume 2. You can ofc do this before destroying it. Uninstall apps from volume 1, and reinstall on volume 2
