Guys I've got a problem when looking to update packages on my 918+. This started when looking to update the Synology Drive Server when it advised that Universal Search had to be running to allow the update.
If I try to run Universal Search I get: Another package is being configured, installed or restored. Please try again later.
I did try stopping Synology Drive Server and it won't stop citing the same error message.
I'm now at the stage where a whole host of packages want to update and wont again the same error.
Any ideas guys?

If I try to run Universal Search
So you didn't have the US in running status? Not something that can be disabled by default without the help of SSH, that's why I'm asking.

Best to look into /var/log/messages for more details on these warnings and errors.

Nope, I stopped running US a long time ago as it used a lot of CPU resource. It was loaded but the package was stopped from the web GUI.

So those messages, how do I get there to see those, is this SSH again?

Hmm interesting.

You can use PUTTY or Terminal app to get access via SSH to your NAS:
ssh youraccount@IPAddressOfYourNAS

Then elevate to root sudo -i and enter your account pass again.

Now that you are root, examine the messages file:
cat /var/log/messages

Okay I'll try and have a look at this later. Interestingly enough the even notifications show, so I wonder if I need to open some ports on the Orbi router? Could turning off UPnP have affected anything? Ports 80 / 443 are redirected to the Web Station....

Hmm just tried SSH'ing in and I get permission denied! Is this because I've got 2FA enabled for the accounts?

Yep I turned that on before looking to connect.....

Just tried again and the same 'permission denied'....

Is it worth a reboot do you think? It might sort out the other problems too?

Yep I turned that on before looking to connect.....
are you using a non "administrator" account? By this I mean a user that is not in the administrator group not the Admin account itself? If so, then you will need an "admin class" account to SSH

I can't see any of that looking relevant. A lot of errors though?

Phew :) SynoCummunity was just added to see if that part of the system was working.

Well I decided to reboot and so far one package has updated, I'm going through them all one by one for the moment.
-- post merged: --

Now switched to updating all as it seems stable, fingers crossed!
