Question User can't edit their address book via DSM

I just noticed that a user has no means to edit their address book entries via DSM login.

I checked both User and Group rights, and CardDAV Server does not appear among apps, etc, where one can grant access.

It appears that address book editing via DSM interface can only be done by an administrator. Otherwise, users can only edit through their phone (awkward) or other 3rd-party platforms.

What have I overlooked?

You're right Not possible as non-admin.

Who knows it may become more user-friendly in DSM7.
For now Outlook with a CalDAV&CardDAV plugin works fine.

Maybe it's all for the best. The Synology CalDAV address book is problemsome. If you edit an address, the edit puts the entire address in one field. When you then sync the edited entry to your phone/thunderbird/outlook, the entire address appears in the "street address" field. Just like all Synology abandonware, CalDAV is nominally implemented.

Bottom line... NEVER use the CalDAV Server package to edit your address book.

I've not seen where a CardDAV client is accessible within DSM. Have only accessed it using Mac and iOS Contacts / Address Book apps and only out of interest as I'm currently happy with iCloud for this function.

Is this a problem because Android doesn't have a native app that supports CardDAV? I know it doesn't have CalDAV support except using a Google Store paid app or leaping into the dark and adding from a third party app store. Looked into it for my son's Android and was surprised at the lack of support.

Judging from this thread, contact integration still isn't on par with the big name solutions (GSuite, Office365). Or can you now use the contacts in synology mail and calendar?

I'm waiting for this before even considering migrating away from G Suite to DSM Drive/Office/Mail/Calendar/Contacts.

Yes DAVx5 is what I saw and it's a paid app, or I think free from some non-affiliated app store that I haven't time to check who's behind it.

CardDAV, CalDAV, Mail Server, Mail Station, DNS Server, etc are all individually packaged open-source server applications that haven't had that much integration added to make them interoperate with each other. The newer Plus packages are better but I'm not firing up Mail Plus to test if it links to CardDAV as it will blow out my Mail Server setup.

No it doesn't automatically integrate with CardDAV. I have MailPlus server running. It does work well together with Calender, Drive and Office packages etc.

BUT, the MailPlus webclient does have an option to sync contacts from a CardDAV server! I've tested this and it works. However, it's only read-only apparently as I couldn't edit anything from that side... No idea why Synology restricted that...

Android DAVx5 (CardDAV/CalDAV) is quite robust and the developer is responsive to bugs. I had issues with an older phone (Android 4.4) and the fix was available in 2 days.

Same experience. The dev is great. I recommend it.
