Well, I think there is a lot of truth to their statement they handled this poorly. The correct way would be to say:As per Synology:
“Video Station was designed over 13 years ago to simplify the organization and local streaming of purchased media files. Since then we've seen more self-hosted video serving options appear in the market that offer a greater variety of features and these applications have become more favored by Synology users. Due to the greater functionality, popularity, and client support of these 3rd party solutions we are no longer offering Video Station.”
I will say that VS will not be making it back into DSM
Luckily this was confirmed by a number of users here on the forum that this will not be an issues. Regardless, glad you are confident now that the support has replied back with the same answer. There will be no difference in perceived differences in: SS — OR — DS APPS: DS CAM, DS FILE in 7.2.2 compared to 7.2.1-5.
There will be no recall on 7.2.2, but as to when cumulative updates will arrive, I have no information on that front. It could be "next week", or it could be a few months.Have you been told, is 7.2.2 at it's final release version?
So basically Synology are saying, somebody came out with a better video app so we are just giving up.
I guess that means we'll soon see the death of Media Server, Calendar, Office, Chat, the list could be endless.
We already see better hardware elsewhere so why are they bothering at all.
Not the way I think business survive
Sunset of certain apps is a normal life cycle. It happened before and it will happen in the future. The only problem with VS and 7.2.2 was the way they did it. Will apps evolve and be deprecated in the future, for sure.
Thank you!!Plex pass members have access to the august 22nd version 1.41 that is specifically for 7.2.2.

Im on board with that for sure. Again, this was not the right way to handle things but I still think it will not continue this way. TBH they did leave us with options on the VS front, and while they could have made a replacement for it, or if nothing, a longer notice, it is what it is. I don't see it as a bad omen or as their new MO, but then again, time will tell.In life it's often not what is said or done, but how it is said or done that begets problems.
If they had put top-level notices etc “Are you sure you want to proceed? Doing so will result in Video Station ceasing to work” in 72pt bold red font with sirens, then people who had not setup an alternative would be forewarned. But from what I saw the warning wasn’t even highlighted at the top of the notes.TBH they did leave us with options on the VS front, and while they could have made a replacement for it, or if nothing, a longer notice, it is what it is
You get an Update notification, not in 72pt bold red font with sirens..... but, you must click the button OK before you can further with the update. If they had put top-level notices etc “Are you sure you want to proceed?
