I wanted to share some knowledge I gained trying to troubleshoot some issues I encountered on my 1821+ using Video Station. I have been using Video Station on my 1812+ for years without issues, but I started experiencing an odd issue on my 1821+ when trying to skip ahead by clicking on the timeline. The moment I click on anything other than start the video from the beginning my entire Video Station session would freeze and the Synology DSM web session would become unresponsive.
I did extensive troubleshooting, including uninstalling and reinstalling Video Station, Reinstalling DSM 7, and ultimately Factory Resetting my DSM 7 ( I went to this extreme as I had little data on my 1821+ and I wanted to make sure that I didn't have any lingering issues from using the DMS 7 Beta).
I finally discovered the issue was related to SMB Signing. If you change "Enable Server Signing" to anything but "Disable", Video Skipping around Video Station would cause your web DMS session to time out. Keep in mind that if you use the Synology Security advisor and set it to Business instead of Home/SMB, it will recommend you set this to client defined or force. Once changed back to Disable, the issue was resolved.
Just wanted to share this in case someone runs into a similar issue and to save them some headaches.
